Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and community service. First of all the Selmons were raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on an agricultural property near Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. Also, he was one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained his diploma in education. Lee Roy's fourth time of service consisted of ten hours a week as a volunteer in college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Also, he began a career in business. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 young men in the US. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing 256 pounds in college as an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
